So I found one of those Sony tvs at a pawn shop. After watching this video, I was worried that I bought a shelf queen. I took it apart, checked the fuse it was blown. Why? I'm pretty sure that these radios had an unfortunate encounter with a "golden screwdriver" type, given how far out some of the slugs are turned. As Shango mentioned that mediumwave is no longer used in Iraq, the radios might have been considered obsolete years ago and handed to a tween as a learning toy. I would be curious if part of the IF strip could be traced out. My suspicion is that a resistor may be placed across one of the windings of one or more of the transformers. Or, perhaps, they did something even more crude and used the entire primary winding instead of just the center tap. This would reduce selectivity and gain, but it would have the side benefit of improving treble response (at least in theory). I'm also quite curious how the squelch "feature" was implemented.

I used to complete the maintenance of this type of radio on a previous car that had circuits that contained heat lamps, and it was somewhat annoying in the maintenance due to its age because it contained electronic elements.

Wow Shango066, this one was a real workout, with the CRT, leaky caps, and the previous repair attempts! I noticed with those high voltage coupling caps for the vertical defection plates, they used 2 caps in series. I have never seen this work without a resistive voltage divider to force the caps to equally share the applied voltage. With all the cost cutting going on in the circuit, I am surprised Hallicrafters used that expensive filter choke in the power supply. The 6C4 is a general purpose tube. When used as an RF class C power amp, the datasheet shows it is capable of a 5 watt output. Note that these CRTs only used a few microamps of plate current so, the 6C4 is not working that hard.

Wow ! One old guy who can't talk vs. another old guy who can't tell the truth . By the way it was several years ago another guy on RUclips named "Buzz1151" restored one of those old Hallicrafter TV's , but I don't remember if he had any better luck then Shango did .

Great work on the repair as always. I also found it interesting how you did your building bottom frame/foundation. The debate, was a filler of CNN. Without Trump no one would have watched it. I recently had to do a repair job on the back part of my house. Well ones I opened up the floor I found that part of the house is basically setting right on the ground and in the dirt. I dug out enough dirt and carefully put two solid cement block under each cross beam after I double-sistered, or replace them. It is much better then it was, and it lasted as it was for me over 12 years since I moved here and the house is over 100 years old. It appears to me that part was a outside back porch at one time, then it got enclosed and then later a second story added to it. At least now the wood in not touching the ground and the first floor is greatly enhanced and very flat with it's own support system. I was 60 years old when I did that work last year.

1:11:42 that happens on maybe 50% of the european series string tvs...there is always a tube or two that do that...its a flaw or a characteristic of the tube itself because if you swap them sometimes they dont flare anymore...i guess bad circuit design also helps.......but i never had one go open filament spontaneously because of that......now if the tube that flares was a horizontal output or other expensive tube id be worried..... one tube that does that very often on series string configuration is the PY88 damper... i was always curious about that and never found any valid info online about that...
